Brenda Frese
Head Coach
Brenda Frese is a veteran collegiate women’s basketball coach, currently serving as the Head Coach of the University of Maryland women’s basketball program. She has held that position since 2002, leading Maryland to sustained success including a national championship in 2006, multiple Final Four appearances, numerous conference titles, and a strong winning record over her tenure. Her coaching journey began as an assistant in various programs (Pima CC, Kent State, Iowa State), before taking head coaching roles at Ball State and Minnesota. At Minnesota, she engineered a dramatic turnaround from an 8–20 to 22–8 season and was named AP National Coach of the Year in 2002. Over her time at Maryland, she has become one of the most consistently successful coaches in women’s college basketball, known for strong recruiting, program stability, and high expectations.
