Bob Heintz
Head Coach
Bob Heintz officially became the head coach of Duke University’s men’s golf program on June 26, 2025, taking over as the eighth all-time head coach of the Blue Devils. He had been part of the Duke coaching staff since February 10, 2017, when he joined as an assistant coach. During his tenure as assistant/associate coach, Heintz helped the program compile an impressive record of success: the team secured 15 titles (including the 2017 ACC Championship), earned a berth to an NCAA regional every eligible season, and advanced to the NCAA Championship four times—once reaching the match-play semifinals in 2018. Under his coaching, Duke men’s golf also registered its eight best single-season scoring averages in program history and twice posted a 54-hole total of 41-under (823) – a program low.
Duke University
Before joining Duke, Heintz was head coach of men’s golf at the University of Pennsylvania from 2012 to 2017, where he guided the Quakers to five team titles and was named the inaugural Ivy League Coach of the Year in 2015. Prior to his collegiate coaching career, Heintz enjoyed a professional golf career with six full seasons on the PGA Tour; notably, he led the Tour in putts per round and one-putt percentage in 2002, setting a putting average record of 1.682 that stood until the 2021-22 season. Heintz played his collegiate golf at Yale University, graduating in 1992 with a degree in economics. He remains the only player in Ivy League history to win three consecutive individual titles (1990-92) and was a three-time All-Ivy selection. At Duke, Heintz steps into the head coach role with a strong continuity of the program’s tradition and a deep well of experience, aiming to both build on recent successes and elevate the team to new heights.
