Bobby Maffei is a defensive assistant for Wake Forest football in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, joining Coach Jake Dickert's staff in March 2025. He came to Wake Forest after three seasons with the Carolina Panthers, where he worked in defensive quality control and assisted the secondary and outside linebackers.
With Carolina, Maffei contributed to a defense that ranked among the NFL's top five in 2023. His work included collaboration with defensive backs and safeties as well as responsibility for goal-line planning. In 2022, he was promoted to interim defensive backs coach and handled the full scope of the position, including weekly installation meetings and scouting presentations for the defensive unit.
