Billy Martin
Head Coach
Billy Martin begins his 33rd season as head coach of the UCLA Bruins men’s tennis program in 2025-26, and marks his 43rd year on the UCLA staff, having served as an assistant for ten years before taking over the program in 1994. Under his leadership, the Bruins have amassed a 676-175 (.794) career record, making him the program’s all-time leader in head-coaching wins. Martin’s Bruins captured the 2005 NCAA men’s tennis team championship—the school’s first since 1984—by staging a come-from-behind 4-3 win over top-seeded Baylor.
His squads have finished in the NCAA top five in 24 of 31 completed seasons, demonstrating remarkable consistency in the highly competitive collegiate tennis landscape. A former standout player himself, Martin won the NCAA singles title and helped UCLA to a perfect 19-0 dual-match record and team title in 1975 before embarking on a professional career. Off the court, Martin holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Redlands (1989) and earned an MBA from USC (1991).
