Bill Winter has served as the head coach of the Portland State University women’s golf program since 2021 and enters his fifth season leading the Vikings in 2025–26. A Portland native, Winter has focused on building a competitive and academically strong program, assembling one of the deepest rosters of his tenure. Under his leadership, the team has excelled in the classroom, consistently ranking among the top programs in the athletic department with a near-perfect cumulative GPA and multiple Academic All-Conference honorees. His strong ties to the local golf community have also provided the program with valuable access to premier facilities, including Columbia Edgewater Country Club, enhancing both player development and recruiting opportunities.
Prior to Portland State, Winter accumulated extensive coaching and professional experience. He spent 11 seasons as the head men’s golf coach at the University of Portland, earning West Coast Conference Coach of the Year honors twice. He also coached at the high school level and worked in private industry with Nike, bringing a diverse skill set to his coaching approach. As a competitive golfer himself, Winter has remained active in elite amateur competition, qualifying multiple times for the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship and earning a place in the Senior British Amateur. His combination of coaching experience, industry background, and continued involvement in competitive golf has helped shape a well-rounded and forward-looking program at Portland State.
