Baylee Mires is the assistant coach for distance at the University of Louisville track and field and cross country program in Louisville, Kentucky, a position she joined on July 25, 2023. By her third season on the staff, she had been part of a stretch that included a USTFCCCA Southeast Regional Men's Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year honor in 2026, one NCAA champion, eight USTFCCCA All-Americans, 16 NCAA Championships qualifications, two ACC individual titles, 14 All-ACC selections, 10 NCAA East First Round qualifiers, and three ACC Performer of the Year awards among Louisville distance athletes.
In cross country, Mires contributed to a notable rise for Louisville's men and women. In 2025, Geoffrey Kirwa became the first Louisville male to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships since 2016, while Rylee Penn earned all-region recognition and led the women to their best NCAA Southeast Regional finish since 2017. In 2026, Louisville's men reached the NCAA Cross Country Championships for the first time since 2015 and placed 26th nationally. Freshman Elsingi Kipruto finished 39th at the national meet to earn All-America status, becoming the sixth male All-American in program history, and he added a runner-up finish at the Southeast Regional, a bronze medal at the ACC Championships, a win at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, and ACC Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Year honors. That same season, the men placed sixth at the NCAA Southeast Regional for their best result there in a decade and finished eighth at the ACC Championships, their strongest conference showing since 2016. On the women's side, Louisville opened the year with the Southern Showcase title and later placed 11th at both the ACC and regional meets.
