Arthur Albiero is the head coach of swimming and diving at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, a position he has held since August 2003. Since arriving at Louisville, he has overseen the program's rise in conference competition and at the NCAA level while also serving in prominent international coaching roles. A native of Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, he holds dual American citizenship and has been part of Olympic, world championship, and national team staffs.
Before taking over at Louisville, Albiero coached at Kenyon College and the University of Alabama. He began his college coaching career at Kenyon from 1996 to 1999 after graduating from Oakland University. He then moved to Alabama, where he served as an assistant coach from 1999 to 2001 and as associate head coach from 2002 to 2003. At Alabama, he was part of a staff that helped return the program to the national top 20. The men placed 12th at the NCAA Championships in 2002-03, their best finish since 1994, after taking fifth at the SEC Championships, while the women finished 15th nationally after placing fourth in the SEC. Among the swimmers he coached there were NCAA champion Stefan Gherghel, NCAA runner-up Anne Poleska, and Vlad Polyakov. Poleska later became an Olympic bronze medalist, and Gherghel repeated as NCAA champion in the 200 butterfly.
