Anthony Anzevui is the head coach of Sacred Heart men’s soccer in Fairfield, Connecticut. He was named the program’s seventh head coach on Nov. 8, 2022, after serving as interim head coach since Jan. 21, 2022, and he had already been on the Sacred Heart staff since August 2014. A former standout defender for the Pioneers, Anzevui has led the program through one of the strongest stretches in its Division I history, capped by being named the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. In 2025, Anzevui guided Sacred Heart to an undefeated MAAC regular-season championship with a 7-0-3 conference record and a place in the MAAC final. The Pioneers finished 9-4-5 overall, ranked No. 49 nationally in the RPI, and spent four weeks in the United Soccer Coaches East Region Top 10. That team set multiple Division I program records, including an 11-match unbeaten streak and 32 goals scored. Sacred Heart also earned five first-team all-conference selections, tied for the most in the nation that season, while Daniel Losfablos was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and Luca Marinelli earned MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Forward Aidan Borra also moved on to the professional ranks, signing with Westchester SC in USL League One. The Pioneers also made strides in the seasons leading up to that championship run. In 2024, Sacred Heart earned its third straight postseason appearance and finished 8-6-2 overall and 3-3-2 in conference play. That team broke the program’s Division I record for goals scored with 27 and climbed as high as No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches East Region rankings.
David Garcia Gallego received First Team All-MAAC recognition, while Matthias Dick and Sam McCann were named third-team all-conference. Andrew Hammersley later signed professionally with Westchester SC, and Ivan Breki Sigurdsson signed with Selfoss in Iceland’s second division. In 2023, Sacred Heart reached its first conference final in program history, finishing 6-8-5 overall and 3-2-4 in conference play. Etienne Murugarren earned First Team All-NEC honors, Garcia Gallego received his second straight Second Team All-NEC selection, and Alex Almuzara made the All-Rookie Team. In Anzevui’s first season at the helm in 2022, Sacred Heart recorded its first Division I postseason victory with a 1-0 win over Saint Francis in the NEC Tournament first round, finishing 7-9-1 overall and 4-3-1 in league play. Anzevui’s connection to Sacred Heart began as a player. He was a three-time NEC all-conference defender and helped the Pioneers engineer the largest single-season turnaround in conference history, leading to the program’s first Division I playoff appearance in 2005. Sacred Heart returned to postseason play again in 2007 during his career. Before college, he spent time in the youth academies of Sunderland and York City in England. After graduating from Sacred Heart in 2009 with a degree in psychology, he later earned a master’s degree in corporate communications and public relations in 2014. He also pursued a professional playing career, beginning with the Western Massachusetts Pioneers of the USL in 2009. He later trained with FC Sion of the Swiss Super League before signing with FC Martigny of the Swiss 1. Liga, where he played from 2011 to 2013. Anzevui holds coaching licenses from both the United States Soccer Federation and The Football Association. He lives in Stratford, Connecticut, with his wife, Lindsay, and their children, Noah, Kit, and Lola.
