Andy Kennedy
Head Coach
Andy Kennedy was named head coach of the UAB men’s basketball program on March 20, 2020, returning to his alma mater where he remains one of the most accomplished players in school history. Entering the 2025-26 season, Kennedy has compiled a 391-219 career record as a collegiate head coach and 125 wins at UAB over five seasons, the most in program history during any five-year span. Under his leadership, the Blazers have captured conference tournament championships, earned NCAA Tournament appearances in 2022 and 2024, and made a run to the 2023 NIT Championship game. His teams have consistently ranked among the nation’s leaders in scoring offense, steals, and defensive efficiency, while producing multiple conference Players of the Year and All-Americans. Kennedy signed a contract extension in July 2022 that runs through the 2027-28 season.
Prior to returning to Birmingham, Kennedy spent 12 seasons as head coach at Ole Miss, becoming the winningest coach in program history with 245 victories and earning SEC Coach of the Year honors twice. He led the Rebels to two NCAA Tournament appearances and an SEC Tournament title in 2013. Kennedy also served as interim head coach at Cincinnati, guiding the Bearcats to a 21-win season and national recognition. As a player at UAB from 1988-91, he scored 1,787 points, ranks second in school history in scoring, and holds multiple three-point shooting records. A Louisville, Mississippi native, Kennedy earned his bachelor’s degree in history from UAB and was inducted into the UAB Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022.
