Andrew Hodgson
Associate Head Coach
Andrew Hodgson joined the University of Alabama swimming and diving program as associate head coach in May 2023, bringing more than a decade of coaching experience at the collegiate and club levels. Working alongside head coach Margo Geer, Hodgson contributes to athlete development, recruiting, and the continued elevation of Alabama’s championship culture. Known for his forward-thinking approach to coaching and strong recruiting acumen, he arrived in Tuscaloosa after a successful five-year tenure at Northwestern, where he helped the Wildcats set 26 school records and achieve a team-high national ranking of No. 16. Hodgson played a key role in assembling nationally ranked recruiting classes and advancing the program’s competitive standing within the Big Ten.
Prior to Northwestern, Hodgson served as an assistant coach at Virginia Tech, mentoring distance and upper-yardage swimmers while contributing to nationally ranked recruiting classes and the development of 19 All-Americans. He began his coaching career at New Trier Swim Club, rising from assistant coach to head coach and guiding athletes to junior national success. A native of Blackpool, England, Hodgson was an accomplished swimmer at Florida State University, earning five NCAA All-America honors and two ACC titles in the 200 backstroke while setting conference and school records. He earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Florida State and later completed a coaching and leadership certificate from the Kellogg School of Management. Hodgson and his spouse, Ali, reside in Tuscaloosa.
