Allison Coomey is the head coach of the University of Delaware ice hockey team in Newark, Delaware, a position she assumed on March 26, 2024, before the program's inaugural 2025-26 season. Delaware's first team showed steady progress under her direction, earning the program's first victory with a 2-1 win over Holy Cross on October 5, 2025, and playing a number of close contests, including four overtime games. The Blue Hens were also the least-penalized team in their conference, and Kaitlin Finnegan received the AHA Individual Sportsmanship Award.
Coomey arrived at Delaware after seven seasons at Penn State, where she was an assistant coach before being elevated to associate head coach in 2020-21. Penn State won College Hockey America tournament championships in 2023 and 2024 and reached the NCAA Tournament in both seasons, while also claiming three CHA regular-season titles in her final four years there. Working primarily with the defense, she was part of a staff that built one of the nation's stronger defensive groups, with the Nittany Lions allowing 1.88 goals per game across the five seasons beginning in 2019-20.
