Allen Sharpe
Head Coach
Allen Sharpe is the head coach of the women’s basketball program at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, having been named the 13th head coach in the history of the program in April 2024. He arrived in Huntsville after a long and successful career spanning more than two decades in collegiate basketball leadership roles. Before taking the helm of UAH women’s basketball, Sharpe most recently coached at Wallace State Community College, where he led both the men’s and women’s teams during the 2023-24 season. His Wallace State women’s squad finished with a remarkable 25-6 record and runner-up in the Alabama Community College Conference Championship, while his men’s team also found success with a 26-9 mark and a second-round appearance in the NJCAA Division I tournament.
Sharpe’s coaching career includes head coaching stints at Wallace State (in two separate periods), the University of Arkansas–Monticello, and the University of West Alabama, where he guided multiple teams to 20-win seasons and postseason appearances. Known for his passion for player development and winning culture, Sharpe began coaching as an assistant at Piedmont College after a standout collegiate playing career at Lipscomb University under coach Don Meyer, where he scored 1,431 career points. Off the court, he is a family man with his wife, Susan—also a former collegiate basketball player—and their three children.
