Aaron Thompson is an assistant coach for George Washington University men's basketball in Washington, D.C. He joined the program in August 2023 as director of player development and was promoted to assistant coach before the 2024-25 season, when his duties expanded to include on-court coaching and recruiting.
In his first season as an assistant coach, Thompson was part of a staff that led GW to its first 20-win season in a decade and its first postseason appearance in eight seasons, capped by a trip to the College Basketball Crown. The Colonials won 20 regular-season games for the first time since 2015-16 and finished with 21 victories overall, their highest total in nine years. Sophomore Trey Autry also made notable gains in 2024-25, nearly doubling his scoring average to more than 10 points per game while improving his field-goal, 3-point, and free-throw percentages.
